Network Lab

Chair of Sociology of Organizations, Prof. Dr. Arnold Windeler

Social network analysis is used all over the world to study the structures of social systems. The basic assumption is that the social can be understood by investigating networks of social relations between persons, groups, organizations, nation-states or supranational units, such as the European Union. A particular benefit of social network analysis is that researchers can use it to visualize the structure of relational networks. The network lab provides researchers and students with software packages for the analysis and visualization of structures of social networks.

Leading figures of social network analysis are, among others, Harrison C. White (Columbia University), Mark Granovetter (Stanford University) and Peter Kappelhoff (Universit├Ąt Wuppertal). The chair of Sociology of Organizations maintains research ties with these scholars and aims to expand cooperations in this field.
